Dame Rebecca West, a British author, once said “There is no such thing as conversation. It is an illusion. There are intersecting monologues, that is all.”
I believe there is an art to hearing and being heard. To actively listen yet quiet our mind and release the impulse to interject our thoughts, our words, regardless of our intention, and genuinely listen to the ideas, observations, and sentiments of others. Intersecting monologues become thoughtful interactions. We hear. We are heard. We learn.
